Double chin
Also known as submental fullness, a double chin develops when an extra layer of fat forms under the chin. There can be a number of different causes or a combination of multiple factors.
As we age, the skin becomes less elastic, which can result in sagging and play a role in the development of a double chin. Weight gain and genetics can also contribute. Finally, even how we sit and stand can affect whether a double chin occurs. Poor posture weakens the neck and chin muscles, which can also lead to sagging skin.
Treatment with KYBELLA®
Double chins can be hard to eliminate with just diet and exercise, and professional help is often necessary. Although there are invasive procedures like liposuction or a neck lift, there is another alternative as well — the noninvasive KYBELLA.
KYBELLA smooths and tightens the double chin using deoxycholic acid. This main ingredient is already found in the body as part of digestion to break down and absorb fat that is consumed through food. As a treatment to eliminate the double chin, it is injected into the affected area where it destroys the fat cells.
The procedure
We begin with an appointment to discuss the patient's desired outcome and examine the affected area. Next, we create a personalized treatment plan that includes the number of treatments and amount of Kybella to be administered to ensure the best possible results.
The treatment itself takes approximately 15 minutes. Typically, multiple sessions are required — often two to four — but it depends on the individual and their goals. Results will become apparent over a four- to six-week period as the fat cells gradually decrease.
Both men and women successfully use this treatment to reduce the appearance of their double chins. Almost every adult is a good candidate as long as they are in good health, and it works equally well on various skin types and in people of all different ethnicities. KYBELLA is not recommended for individuals who have a bleeding disorder or are pregnant.
